In reality, John Swinney is from Edinburgh, and his mother was called Agnes; he has never been a teacher. Similarly, a biography of Nicola Sturgeon incorrectly stated she was born in America to a Polish mother, and another about Humza Yousaf falsely claimed he grew up in poverty with a father named Mohammed, despite him attending private school and his father being named Muzaffar.
